My Raison D’être: Fashion. Create. Inspire.

Mikara Reid

Mikara Reid’s love affair with fashion is not quite your typical fairytale. At age 10, her dream was to become the fastest woman on earth. But on her path to success on the running track, she also gained recognition for her signature hairstyles — her foray into the art of making a fashion statement.

After awhile, Mikara hung up her race shoes and worked in a variety of roles from fashion and product styling, image development, costume design, PR, media, magazine editorials and creative direction. She began her fashion career as a brand lead for outlets like EXPRESS, Juicy Couture, GAP and the leading online luxury consignment shop, The RealReal.

Mikara has also collaborated with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NY, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the late Mychael Knight, EXPRESS, Romona Keveza, and other fashion powerhouse corporations and events. She has educational background in Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management and is an active member of the International Association of Women. Her featured work can be found in Cool America Magazine, Vulkan Magazine, and BOCA Magazine among others.

Mikara is now well known for her stylish appearance, tasteful accessories, and unique spin on color blocking. She is passionate about adding aesthetic value to everything she touches — and it shows. Her current client base is the modern working woman — corporate women, entrepreneurs, and business owners — willing to invest in her style.

Despite a love for fashion, Mikara’s life philosophy is far from shallow. She believes that “looking good” isn’t only about fashion. For Mikara, looking good means feeling good about your body, skin, and even the way you smell. She considers herself an image guru and in her holistic approach, “clothes” come second.

Mikara is a firm believer in sharing your gifts with the world. That’s why she’s started a partnership project that helps homeless women transition to the working world with a better look. Because image is so crucial in the world of business, Mikara dresses and coaches women on dressing for a job interview and maintaining that look without breaking the bank!

Born and raised in New Jersey (with a well-traveled itinerary), but currently residing in Newark, NJ, Mikara is the owner of MIIEN, editor-in-chief of ZINE BY MIKARA, vintage eboutique owner at Mikara’s Modish, an online vintage accessories boutique, host of Fashionably Dating Mikara, and Creative Director of More Mikara. A true creative free-spirit, Mikara is eager to continue venturing into different avenues that align her to adding aesthetic value.

Mikara was a joy to work with. Her professionalism made the entire process seamless. My involvement hinged on her ability to provide accurate details and direction and because of her ability to excel in both we left away with a beautiful project. She’s not only gifted but able to clearly articulate herself, be personable, and remained focus. I’d definitely work with her again!”
